เมื่อวันที่ 10 – 12 พฤษภาคม 2561 สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงไนโรบี ร่วมกับบริษัท Xtra Kombat จัดอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการกีฬามวยไทย ณ ศูนย์สุขภาพ Alpha Fit ในกรุงไนโรบี โดยมีอาจารย์เสน่ห์ ทับทิมทอง ครูมวยไทย และนายชนสรณ์ ทับทิมทอง ผู้ช่วยครูมวย ทำหน้าที่วิทยากรตลอดระยะเวลา 3 วัน ผู้เข้าอบรมซึ่งประกอบด้วยนักกีฬาและผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องของวงการมวยไทยในเคนยา ยูกันดา และเอธิโอเปียประมาณกว่า 20 คน ได้เรียนรู้แก่นของกีฬามวยไทย รวมถึงเทคนิคการฝึกสอนมวยไทยและการทำหน้าที่เป็นกรรมการผู้ตัดสิน

นับเป็นครั้งแรกที่เป็นการฝึกอบรมเทคนิคมวยไทยโดยครูมวยไทยในภูมิภาคแอฟริกาตะวันออก จึงถือเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นสำหรับการพัฒนาบุคลากรที่เกี่ยวข้องกับกีฬามวยไทยในภูมิภาคนี้ให้เข้าใจหลักวิธีและเทคนิคที่ถูกต้องก่อนถ่ายทอดไปยังผู้สนใจอื่น ๆ โดยเฉพาะคนรุ่นใหม่ที่ต้องการฝึกมวยไทยเพื่อการแข่งขันและเพื่อการออกกำลังกาย

Developed over hundreds of years, the ancient martial art of Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) is known for its tremendous power and regarded as one of the most striking arts in the world. Often referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs”, Muay Thai utilizes a beautiful symphony of kicks, punches, knees, and elbows with quick movements.

On May 10-12, 2018, the Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi together with Xtra Kombat organized a workshop on Muay Thai training at Alpha Fit in Nairobi. The three-day training was conducted by Grand Master Sane Tubtimtong and his assistant, Mr. Chanasorn Tubtimtong. About 20 trainees, including boxers, coaches, and other related Muay Thai staffs in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia had learned the principles of Muay Thai, and practiced its techniques as well as its rules.

This is the first time that Muay Thai training has been conducted by Thai instructors in East Africa. Therefore, it is the starting point for the capacity building on Muay Thai which will help practitioners in this region to understand the principles and techniques before transmitting them to other interested persons, especially the new generation who want to practice Muay Thai for their competition and the exercise purposes.
